They say a picture is worth 1000 words. That an entire image tells a story, yet this image really just speaks and tells the story in one simple word DAMAGED. You really do not need to read into the image on what the photographer wanted to say. Walker Evans just nailed it with this shot. He tells everything he wanted to with the actual word if you remove that and show something that is broken you open it up to tons of interpretations for everyone to yell and scream on what it really means or shows. This image tells you want it wants to say. Walker Evans is a man who can wait until the image shows what he wants to say so it is not really opened to interpretation even if it means "cheating" an image which is done every time you take a photo.

Not bad but the picture is opened to interpretation for instance I think you could argue that this picture was about say manual labor. What you and I think Evans is trying for is for you to more or less get his point, even if you put in your own finer details.
